The Orange Show Center for Visionary Art, long known for its avant‑garde exhibitions, unveiled Smither Park on Munger Street after a decade‑long collaboration with over 300 artists.
At the heart of the 0.5‑acre space stands a 400‑foot mosaic memory wall, assembled from thousands of fragments—broken crockery, shells, and bottle caps—by Dan Phillips and his team.
Beyond the wall, a glass‑bottled pavilion, a fish‑themed band shell, a swing set and a marble‑tower kinetic sculpture invite visitors to interact with art that was once destined for landfill.
The project was realized with a $1.2 million budget sourced entirely from private donors, while artists donated hours of labor and many materials were reclaimed from local scrapyards.
Since its opening, the park has drawn more than 10,000 visitors a month, and the Orange Show plans to open a new creative hub on the adjacent property next year.
