Edimar Martins, 49, booked a 1,200‑mile bus ride to Belo Horizonte on Oct. 9, convinced a woman he met online would be his future wife.
The profile, @JessicaFazendeira, boasted 300,000 followers and featured a holographic woman who promised to bring him financial freedom on a farm.
In a video posted on Wednesday, the account’s creator admitted the persona was AI‑generated and denied ever speaking to Martins.
After arriving in Belo Horizonte, Martins found no trace of the woman and, exhausted by his own savings, sought help from the city hall. A social worker arranged a ride back to Maranhao, and Martins spoke with TV Mirante about his heartbreak.
He says the experience left him emotionally shattered but determined to find love again; he plans to return to Belo Horizonte in the future.
