Prajyot Kamble vanished from Azad Nagar at about 7:00 p.m. on 24 September. His father filed a missing‑person report the next day, prompting a kidnapping case at Thane police station.
Investigation traced his calls to a bus in Ghodbunder, but CCTV footage from 80‑90 cameras along the route contradicted the suspect’s claim that Prajyot had left with an unknown rider. The footage showed the boy alone, then a sudden halt near Brahmand Phase‑2.
Police interrogated the same friend again, using mobile‑location data that revealed a spike in the victim’s GPS at the time of the alleged killing. The suspect admitted to luring Prajyot under the pretext of a cigarette break, stabbing him, crushing him with a stone, and setting the body ablaze with petrol.
Both minors were taken into custody and have confessed to the murder. Deputy Police Commissioner Prashant Kadam said the case underscores the need for parents to monitor online activity and behaviour. A forensic team is still collecting evidence, and the boys will face trial under juvenile law.
