In Chandigarh, former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh opened the book “Bishan with Love” on Friday, commemorating ex‑cricketer Bishan Singh Bedi. The 84‑year‑old, who had led Punjab twice, made the remarks in front of an audience that included former Jammu‑and‑Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah and cricket legends Kapil Dev, Syed Kirmani and Madan Lal.
Singh said he felt compelled to communicate Punjab’s grievances to the BJP leadership, adding that he was not leaving the party. He referenced his 60‑year political career and implied that the current BJP has failed to engage with veteran politicians.
The former Congress stalwart left the party in 2021 after being replaced as chief minister, launched the Punjab Lok Congress, and merged it with the BJP in 2022. His move had sparked speculation about a possible return to Congress, which he now denies.
BJP officials have yet to issue a public response, but party leaders are scheduled to meet Singh on Saturday to discuss the concerns he raised. The meeting will be closely watched by political analysts predicting how it could influence the party’s stance in the upcoming state elections.
