BJP posted a clip purporting to show Rahul Gandhi boarding a flight to Vietnam, and in a scathing X thread called the opposition leader "too tired of spreading lies" — a jab timed with the party’s current attack on the central government.
Earlier Monday, BJP spokesperson RP Singh had already taken a swipe at Gandhi, suggesting his overseas trip followed a recent Bihar yatra and implying it was a political diversion. “Look, Rahul Gandhi does this every time…perhaps he went to Vietnam then, and maybe he has gone to Vietnam again this time,” Singh told IANS.
Congress’s Sandeep Dikshit fired back, arguing that Gandhi’s travel was part of his duties as Leader of the Opposition. He highlighted Gandhi’s engagements at Yale, London and press interviews, and pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself has broken the tradition of staying home when Parliament is in session. “Why is there no question about that?” Dikshit told ANI.
The video surfaced as Congress‑led protests over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls intensified. After marching for two kilometres in the Goa Rakhon Yatra, Congress leaders headed to the Supreme Court on October 12 to file a joint petition against the Election Commission’s SIR exercise.
With the general election looming, the BJP’s attack is part of a broader media push. Congress now aims to formalise its challenge to the SIR on October 12, while BJP is expected to ramp up its campaign before the forthcoming polls.
