The Federal Bureau of Investigation placed Himanshu Bhau, known as one of India’s most dangerous gangsters, in custody in the United States. This arrest stems directly from an Interpol Red Notice issued by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). He is not alone; the FBI also detained Neeraj Faridpuria, a key lieutenant in Bhau’s syndicate.
Bhau’s criminal record is extensive and violent. Over two dozen cases are registered against him across Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab, involving murder, extortion, and attempted killing. His gang, operating from Ritoli village in Rohtak, Haryana, has been locked in a fierce turf war with the Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar gangs. The stakes were high, with Bhau’s men allegedly firing outside YouTuber Elvish Yadav’s residence to assert dominance.
His path to international fugitive status began with a dramatic escape. In 2022, at just 17, Bhau fled a juvenile correctional home in Haryana along with roughly 20 other boys, having already been linked to three murders. He first moved to Portugal but eventually established his operations from the US, directing extortion rackets in India remotely. Among the most grisly incidents attributed to his network is the murder of a suspected criminal inside a Burger King outlet.
Delhi Police and Haryana Police teams spent months tracking his location in the US before the FBI moved in. Now, the focus shifts to the legal battle. Indian agencies are finalizing the paperwork to bring Bhau and Faridpuria back to India, where they will face multiple trials under the NIA and state police jurisdictions. The next step involves a formal extradition hearing in US federal court.
