Australia overpowered South Africa by 214 runs after Josh Hazlewood ripped out six wickets for 49 in the final innings.
Hazlewood’s spell began with a seam that caught Wiaan Mulder for 29, breaking a 204‑ball partnership. He followed with a blistering over where he skied Marco Jansen and Simon Harmer back‑to‑back, before finally ending the innings with Anrich Nortje for a duck.
But the victory was built on Matt Renshaw’s 190 in the first innings and an 82 in the second that saw Australia declare at 314/6. South Africa’s chase of 421 fell to 206, their first Test loss under Temba Bavuma.
The win puts Australia two games ahead in the five‑match series and keeps their hopes alive for the final match in Cape Town.
Next up, Australia will face South Africa again on Saturday, with the winner tightening its grip on the series title.
