Qatari police seized former Air Force Chief Sheikh Abdul Hannan on Thursday, Oct. 15, after Interpol relayed a Bangladesh request for his arrest on corruption charges.
Akhtarul Islam, ACC deputy director, confirmed that the ex‑chief allegedly amassed Tk 3.28 crore in assets beyond his stated income, with Tk 27.63 crore funneled through six personal bank accounts.
His wife, also named in the probe, is accused of accumulating Tk 1.91 crore over her own income, with Tk 1.18 crore found across 32 accounts in her name.
Despite a travel ban and court orders to freeze two apartments and block bank accounts, Hannan slipped out of Bangladesh in early October—a move that prompted a Dhaka court to seize his tax records earlier this year.
Bangladesh’s ACC has lodged an extradition request with Qatari authorities, and a hearing is slated for Nov. 5, 2024, under the 2019 extradition treaty.
