Aarushi Nishank, the campaign's chief, said the initiative will bring together students from IIT, JNU, and Delhi University to plant trees and reduce plastic waste across the region. The drive will mobilise more than 10,000 young people, including volunteers from NSS, Sparsh Ganga, and grassroots environmental groups, to take concrete actions on the ground.
Kedarnath Dham attracts millions of pilgrims each year, and the influx has turned the area into a hotspot for waste and plastic pollution. The campaign’s focus on responsible tourism and waste management aims to reverse this trend.
The initiative echoes the spirit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Mission, urging pilgrims, tourists, and local residents to participate in conservation efforts as part of their daily routine.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan, during the launch, stressed that environmental protection must become part of everyday life, not just a government programme. His remarks were followed by a ribbon‑cutting ceremony that symbolised the start of a nationwide movement.
Going forward, volunteers will travel from Delhi to Kedarnath, planting native species, setting up waste segregation points, and conducting awareness walks along the pilgrimage route.
