Counting of votes for five graduate and six teachers’ seats in the UP Legislative Council began at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, October 27, across seven centres. Polling for the 11 seats had taken place on October 23, with 152 candidates vying for the seats. CCTV and live video feed monitored the process to curb tampering.
Yadav, who posted on X, slammed the Election Commission, claiming it was dragging its feet and withholding round‑by‑round tallies. He asked Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to make the results public and warned that any attempt by district magistrates or commissioners to manipulate the count would trigger protests and legal action from the SP.
BJP spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi rebuked Yadav, saying the allegations were baseless and that the ECI enjoys worldwide respect. He added that Yadav’s attacks were a tactic to undermine his own electoral prospects.
The timing of the count is crucial, as the outcome will shape the balance of power ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. SP workers and office‑bearers have reportedly been keeping a close watch on the proceedings, ready to act if irregularities arise.
The Election Commission is expected to respond to Yadav’s demands later today, with the first round of results slated for release tomorrow.
