Samvardhana Motherson has secured an 81% stake in Yachiyo Industry Co.’s four‑wheel‑drive parts division, a move that expands its reach into Honda’s supply chain.
Yachiyo’s 4W business has long been a key supplier of sunroofs, fuel tanks and exterior resin parts—bumpers, rear slide windows—for Honda’s pickup and SUV lineup. The acquisition gives Motherson immediate access to a steady stream of high‑volume components that are already battle‑tested in the Japanese market.
Financially, the Canadian arm of Yachiyo reported only ₹1.5 million in income and a net worth of ₹1.2 million in FY 2025‑26, underscoring its marginal contribution to Motherson’s consolidated figures. The decision to dissolve Yachiyo Canada, effective 14 Oct 2026, is a clean‑up of a peripheral entity that had no ongoing operations.
For buyers of Honda vehicles, this consolidation could mean tighter supply of reliable aftermarket parts, potentially reducing lead times and cost volatility. Motherson’s foothold in the exterior resin segment also positions it to supply next‑generation lightweight panels that are increasingly demanded under India’s EV mandate.
The stake switch was formalised on 1 Oct 2024, following the 2023 announcement that Motherson would take 81% of Yachiyo’s 4W business while Honda retained 19%. The move is already in motion across Honda’s North American and Asian plants, with the first batch of components expected in the next quarter.
