Humayun Kabir, the Aam Janata Unnayan Party MLA from Nowda, announced he will relocate to Dubai after completing a mosque he pledged in Rejinagar, Murshidabad, by December 2028.
Kabir’s son, Golam Nabi Azad, lost the Rejinagar bypoll held on 23 September 2026, with BJP’s Shankharavh Sarkar winning by a margin of 75,816 votes.
The mosque, whose foundation stone was laid on 6 December 2025, is modelled on the Babri Masjid and is slated for completion on 6 December 2028.
Kabir blamed Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and Murshidabad police for orchestrating the BJP victory, saying the ‘people’s mandate’ was overridden. “The police administration was used to ensure the victory of the BJP in the seat,” he asserted.
BJP officials have denied any wrongdoing, calling the allegations baseless and politically motivated. “There is no evidence to support these claims,” said BJP spokesperson Ranjit Kumar.
An investigation by the West Bengal police is expected to conclude by early 2027, while the party prepares to rally support ahead of the 2027 state elections.
