Dr. Suresh Gajraj, 38, principal medical officer at Mandal hospital in Bhilwara, died instantly when a speeding truck slammed into his car on the Kawai-Atru highway. His wife, Dr. Shalini Maurya, 35, also a doctor, and their two children, Swapnil, 12, and Nilisha, 7, perished in the same impact. The crash, which occurred around 11 am near the Kawai police station area, turned the family vehicle into an unrecognizable lump of twisted metal.
Circle Inspector Rajpal Singh confirmed that all four victims were pronounced dead at the Atru Sub-District Hospital mortuary. The family, originally from Surajgarh in Jhunjhunu district, was residing in Jaipur and traveling toward Chhabra when the tragedy struck. Locals rushed to the site to free the trapped occupants before police could secure the area.
The truck driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene immediately after the collision. Police recovered the damaged truck and have initiated a high-priority manhunt to locate the absconding driver. An investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the crash, including the truck's speed and potential negligence.
The bereaved families have been informed, and post-mortem examinations are pending their arrival at the hospital. This incident highlights the lethal risks on this stretch of the highway, where speeding commercial vehicles frequently endanger private car users. The next critical step is the arrest of the driver, which police say is the top priority for the Kawai police station team.
