Sonia Gandhi’s memoir, titled 'Belonging: A Journey of Love', has been in development since 2022, with publishers lining up a global launch schedule.
During a quiet ceremony in New Delhi on May 21, Gandhi held a hardcover copy, smiling as she shared the first page with her daughter Priyanka. “It’s a heavy weight,” she told the gathered crowd, offering a box of sweets in a gesture that echoed family tradition.
HarperCollins, the India publisher, confirmed the November 10 release after Penguin Random House India withdrew due to disagreements over editorial changes. The publisher’s statement read, “The book offers a rare insider’s view of India’s journey.”
The memoir traces the 1984 assassination of Indira Gandhi, the rise and death of Rajiv, and Sonia’s own entry into politics, providing an intimate look at the family’s legacy. “The story is about love, duty, and belonging,” she said in a statement released through Alfred A Knopf.
Readers and political analysts expect the book to spark discussions on the Congress party’s history, with pre‑orders already climbing to 100,000 copies. Publishers will begin distribution across India on launch day, while a special edition will be released for the U.S. market.
