The CID will file an appeal against the Gauhati High Court’s decision to grant bail to Sandipan Garg and Amritprava Mahanta.
The case was registered in 2025, and over the past months the Court has examined 134 witnesses, a number that gives the prosecution a solid narrative.
While the two co‑accused secure temporary freedom, their murder charge has now been invoked—Sandipan Garg, a former deputy superintendent of police, faces a fresh indictment.
Gupta said the appeal would be lodged as soon as the courts reopen after the summer holidays, after seeking a legal opinion on the bail orders.
Fans of the late singer, who died in a fatal incident last year, have called the bail decision a miscarriage of justice, while the families of the victims urge swift action.
With the appeal set to be filed next month, the Supreme Court will review the High Court’s ruling before deciding whether to reinstate the bail or remand the accused.
