A video captured a man leaping from the balcony of the 43rd floor of the Supernova tower in Sector 94, Noida, sending him plummeting to the ground floor. The 68‑storey complex, the tallest residential building in the NCR, had been under construction for months. The footage shows the man, later identified as Sambhav Jain, ignoring pleas from a passerby who tried to pull him back.
Police confirmed that Jain had checked into an Airbnb on Friday and was scheduled to leave by noon Saturday, the day he jumped. He called his father multiple times before the act, according to investigators. Authorities say he was under severe financial stress, a factor they are scrutinizing as part of the investigation.
Supernova complex has seen similar tragedies: a 23‑year‑old Delhi law student died after falling from the 32nd floor last August, and a 43‑year‑old Delhi property consultant fell to his death from the 43rd floor of the tower’s under‑construction section in January 2023. These incidents have raised concerns over the safety of high‑rise residential towers in the region.
Police have collected evidence from the site and are reviewing footage from nearby CCTV cameras. A post‑mortem is underway, and the victim’s family has been notified. Mental‑health helplines, including the Vandrevala Foundation and TISS iCall, are urging anyone in distress to seek help.
