In a filing lodged on Thursday, Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra alleged that officials in Nadia district evicted her from a circuit house despite the state having allotted her a room.
Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V Mohana heard the case and asked the West Bengal government to submit a written response by 10 October.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the state and the centre, warned that allowing individual MPs to bring personal disputes before the Supreme Court could set a precedent, cautioning that all 788 MPs might follow suit.
Moitra claims that the eviction has hampered her ability to visit constituents and implement MPLADS projects, effectively obstructing her parliamentary work.
The West Bengal government will file its response by 10 October, after which the bench will issue a ruling on whether the MP is entitled to relief.
In Nadia’s Krishnanagar, local residents have watched the dispute unfold, with some fearing that the controversy could affect the timely completion of community development schemes.
