The collision occurred on the evening of 15 September 2024 when a Pakistani naval vessel approached an Indian warship at high speed in the North Arabian Sea, forcing the two ships into contact without sustaining any reported damage.
The Indian Navy said the Pakistani vessel’s manoeuvres were “unprofessional and unsafe,” noting that the sudden approach violated established maritime conduct.
In response, the Ministry of External Affairs summoned Pakistan’s Chargé d’Affaires in New Delhi and lodged a strong protest, citing Article 10 of the 1991 Agreement on Advance Notice for Military Exercises.
India has also instructed its own Chargé d’Affaires in Islamabad to file a similar protest with Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, signalling a coordinated diplomatic effort. The next step will involve formal exchanges between the two ministries, with an eye toward preventing future incidents in international waters.
