The horror-comedy niche usually thrives on word-of-mouth, but Nayyi Navelli had to fight for its survival from the start. On Friday, October 16, the Yami Gautam starrer pulled in approximately ₹3.25 crore across 6,281 shows. That’s a solid start for a non-star vehicle, but the 11% occupancy suggests audiences were still warming up to the concept.
Rajkummar Rao’s Prahaar: The Ujjwal Nikam Story wasn’t far behind, collecting ₹2.35 crore from 4,133 shows. Interestingly, Prahaar actually recorded a slightly higher occupancy rate at 13%, hinting that the courtroom drama might have a stickier audience base. Yet, the raw numbers favor the supernatural flick for now, giving it a psychological edge in the race.
The real problem isn’t the head-to-head matchup; it’s the giants lurking in the shadows. With Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna’s Ranabaali and Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 dominating screens, these two mid-budget releases are fighting for scraps. They are outperforming other new Bollywood entries, sure, but that’s a low bar to clear in a market saturated with star power.
Saturday looks shaky for both. Nayyi Navelli is projected to earn just ₹20 lakh from 974 shows, while Prahaar is expected to bring in ₹12 lakh from 616 screens. If word-of-mouth doesn’t kick in sharply over the weekend, these figures will likely dip further. The early lead is Yami’s, but momentum is everything in this brutal box office climate.
