A 17-year-old girl from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir found herself in the hands of the Indian Army after slipping across the Line of Control into Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district late last night. The intrusion occurred in the Lam sector of Nowshera, where a routine patrol detected unusual movement near the border fence. The soldiers challenged the figure, only to find a teenager standing on the Indian side of the wire.
The girl, identified as a resident of Khuiretta in PoK, was handed over to Nowshera Police for further verification after a brief on-site interrogation. During this initial questioning, she claimed she had inadvertently crossed the border. That explanation, however, sits uncomfortably with security protocols that treat any unauthorized crossing as a high-priority threat.
The distinction between an accidental stumble and a planted operative is a fine line. Intelligence agencies in the region maintain that the LoC is heavily monitored with sensors and night-vision equipment, making a 'genuine' unnoticed crossing highly improbable without a specific intent. The military is now cross-referencing her movement patterns against recent infiltration attempts in the sector to determine if she was acting alone or under direction.
The investigation into her background and potential contacts will continue for the next 24 to 48 hours. Until the security agencies rule out any ulterior motive, the girl will remain in custody for a detailed debriefing.
