Kyle Weber, a mechanic, slammed on the brakes at 2:45 a.m. near Mud Volcano in Yellowstone National Park after spotting a bison standing in the middle of the road. He stopped his Ford Ranger and waited for the animal to move out of the way. It didn't.
The bison walked toward the truck and then charged, slamming into the vehicle and pushing it backward by at least a foot and a half. The impact dented the Ford's bumper and hood and shattered a side marker light, according to NYPost and Wyoming publication Cowboy State Daily. Weber's friend, Stephen Borgmier, shared the dashcam video on Facebook, emphasizing that bison effectively own the roads in the park.
Weber was traveling from Canyon Village to Fishing Bridge when the incident occurred. Despite the physical damage to his truck, Weber plans to repair and upgrade the vehicle himself. He may even keep the dented hood as a permanent reminder of the close encounter.
The incident highlights the unpredictable nature of wildlife encounters in Yellowstone, where animals frequently roam near roads and vehicles.
