During his address at the 81st UN General Assembly in New York, Jaishankar described AI as a transformational driver for human empowerment, economic prosperity, and solving population‑scale problems, citing the AI Impact Summit India hosted in February.
He underscored that India views AI as a core part of its partnership agenda with the Global South, insisting that each country should develop its own models and deployment strategies in line with national priorities.
Jaishankar warned that the Global South faces a "4F crisis"—food, fuel, fertilizer, and finance—exacerbated by a super‑El Niño, and that misuse of AI could deepen bias and erode mutual respect.
He called for technology democratization and cultural understanding as essential to peace, urging that economic and political rebalancing be accompanied by a cultural rebalancing.
India announced it will host a Global South AI Forum in December to expand its partnership agenda and will present a draft resolution on AI governance to the UN Security Council next month.
