Fox News Digital released an investigation on October 20, 2025, cataloguing 101 organisations across France, Spain, India, Albania, and other countries that coordinate or amplify demonstrations, with Progressive International (PI) named as a key connector. The report lists left‑wing, socialist and communist groups, noting a network that shares resources and messaging across borders.
The investigation details a meeting on April 16, 2025, at Janpath in New Delhi, where Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi sat with a PI delegation. The delegation’s brief, released on October 16, outlined plans to unite progressive movements, with the leaders reportedly discussing global issues and PI’s strategy to bring groups together.
The meeting has sparked a political row. Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut posted claims that Albanian protesters had set fire to the Supreme Court and attacked government buildings, prompting criticism from the BJP and a rebuke from party colleague Priyanka Chaturvedi. BJP leader Pradeep Bhandari used the investigation to question Congress about its alleged coordination with PI, hinting that the party may have been involved in messaging during protests.
Congress’s response will be crucial. KC Venugopal, Congress general secretary, has already announced that the opposition alliance will stage a protest against the Election Commission on November 1. The outcome of that protest, and whether Congress can provide a clear denouncement of any ties to PI, will shape the upcoming electoral debate.
