BJP president Nitin Nabin announced a sweeping organisational reshuffle on Wednesday, assigning new state in‑charges for all 28 states and eight union territories. Smriti Irani, the party's national general secretary, was given charge of Haryana and Chhattisgarh, while vice‑president Ram Madhav will oversee Tamil Nadu and Uttarakhand. The move also names Vinod Tawde as in‑charge of Uttar Pradesh, Baijayant Jay Panda for Maharashtra, and Vinay Sahasrabuddhe for Delhi, among other appointments.
Irani, who has steered party operations in Gujarat and Rajasthan and served as Union Minister of Women and Child Development, will now lead campaign machinery in two pivotal states where the BJP seeks to shore up its base. Her track record of mobilising grassroots networks and her media presence are seen as assets for the upcoming electoral battles.
Ram Madhav, a veteran strategist who ran the party's 2014 national campaign, will bring his experience to Tamil Nadu and Uttarakhand, states where BJP has made incremental gains but still needs to expand its reach. His appointment follows a similar pattern of placing seasoned campaign architects in key swing states.
The reshuffle comes ahead of the 2027 assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa, Manipur, Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, where the BJP aims to retain control. Analysts say the new appointments signal a push to strengthen grassroots networks and improve electoral logistics ahead of the vote.
