India clocks eight medals on Day 9 of the Asian Games, but the tally stops short of gold.
Yashvir Singh’s silver in the men’s javelin was the night’s highlight, throwing a personal best 85.72m to snatch second place—just 4.33m shy of Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Pathirage gold at 88.55m.
Rohit Yadav and Murali Sreeshankar added to the podium, with Rohit bronze 84.35m and Sreeshankar silver 8.07m in the long jump, even after a hamstring pull forced him to skip his last two attempts. Gulveer Singh trotted out a silver in the 1500m, clocking a personal best 3:36.72. In shooting, Esha Singh earned silver with 38 hits, matching China’s Xiao Jiaruixuan before the shoot‑off.
The eight medals bring India’s total to 45—four gold, 20 silver, 21 bronze—keeping the country at 12th in the overall table, two spots below Uzbekistan and still distant from China’s 132 golds.
With the Games still in full swing, India looks to the remaining athletics, shooting and kurash events for that elusive gold that could lift them higher in the rankings.
