Thol Thirumavalavan, chief of the VCK, denied on Facebook Live that the party will join the ruling TVK alliance, calling the speculation a calculated political ploy aimed at confusing cadres.
The claim surfaced as the PMK, which holds four MLAs, remained neutral ahead of the October 6 by‑elections in Madurantakam and Dharapuram, sparking speculation it might shift to TVK after the polls.
VCK has two MLAs and has pledged support for TVK candidates in the two reserved constituencies, making its backing pivotal for the alliance to reach the 118 seats needed for a majority in the 234‑member assembly.
TVK’s School Education Minister Raj Mohan said the party would decide on new allies collectively, while a senior leader hinted the government is aiming for a caste‑inclusive coalition. The wife of PMK MLA Anbumani Ramadoss, Soumya Anbumani, dismissed the reports as unimportant.
If the PMK joins, it would not only bolster TVK numerically but also weaken the AIADMK, reshaping Tamil Nadu’s power dynamics.
TVK will hold a leadership meeting on Friday to finalize the alliance, with the by‑poll results due later that week.
