Independent Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal struck a sharp tone on Saturday, declaring the Modi government a "Dimagi bulldozer" for allegedly "bulldozing" the Constitution and the people's votes. He delivered the jab at the INDIA bloc's symbolic "public impeachment" of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, a gathering held at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's residence in New Delhi.
The former Union minister rejected the government's label of "Dimagi Naxal" for the opposition. "You have bulldozed our rights and votes," Sibal said. "How can you label us as Naxals?" He positioned the incident not as an isolated attack on Kumar, but as a systemic failure where the legislature is silenced and protests are met with baton charges.
Sibal argued that the current crisis has roots deeper than Kumar's tenure. He pointed out that the law granting immunity to the CEC was enacted in 2023 under Rajiv Kumar. "Gyanesh Kumar is just a pawn on a chess board," he stated. "It is the 'wazirs'—the ministers roaming around the country—who are the real culprits." He further linked the issue to Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, alleging the CEC subverted voter lists through electronic means.
The MP claimed a shift in public sentiment, asserting that for the first time in 12 years, the public is listening to the opposition. "In the minds of the people, Gyanesh Kumar has already been impeached," Sibal said. He cited a figure of 60% of the country's population supporting the opposition, suggesting the bloc has won the narrative war even if it lacks parliamentary numbers.
Sibal concluded by promising the fight would not end with Kumar. "Let Gyanesh Kumar go and others would follow," he said. He framed the event as a starting point for a broader struggle, stating the opposition would fight to ensure the "sacrifice of our forefathers" was not in vain, ending with a vow to "awake tomorrow to a new morning."
