If you are eyeing the XSR900 GP, stop holding your breath for the 2027 model. Yamaha just revealed the new Legend Blue livery, but here is the catch: nothing under the skin has changed. The 890cc liquid-cooled triple still pumps out 117.3hp at 10,000rpm and 93Nm of torque. It weighs 200kg, sits at an 835mm seat height, and holds 14 litres of fuel. If you are buying for performance, the 2027 bike is mechanically identical to the one you can import or find in stock right now. The only difference is the paint.
So, what is the blue actually about? It’s a tribute to Christian Sarron, the French rider who clinched the 250cc world title in 1984 on a Sonauto Yamaha. The scheme features deep metallic blue with lighter speedblocks, stepped racing stripes, and yellow accents on the number plates. It’s the third entry in the GP’s heritage series, joining the Wayne Rainey-inspired Legend Red and Kenny Roberts’ Legend Yellow. Yamaha is keeping the yellow on sale, so you won’t be forced to swap your preference for the new blue.
The electronics package remains untouched. A six-axis IMU manages the cornering ABS and lean-sensitive traction control, while the 5-inch TFT display handles cruise control, riding modes, and smartphone connectivity. The quickshifter is still there for cleaner upshifts. For Indian enthusiasts, this is strictly a cosmetic update for international markets. Yamaha has not confirmed an India launch, price, or unit allocation. The 2027 model is expected at international dealers from June 2027, but that timeline says nothing about our shores.
Bottom line: if you are waiting for a mechanical upgrade to justify the wait, you’re waiting for nothing. The 2027 XSR900 GP is just a new paint job on the same chassis. If you want the specific Sarron livery, expect a long wait and no local pricing. If you just want the bike, grab an earlier variant. The 117.3hp triple is still the star here, not the blue.
