Union Minister Kiren Rijiju fired a sharp rebuke at the Congress on 26 October 2026 after the Indian Army exposed two viral clips that falsely claimed China had seized parts of Arunachal Pradesh.
The first clip, shared by Congress spokesperson Ritu Choudhary, showed Chinese commercial vehicles at Nathu La Pass in Sikkim. The Army spokesperson clarified that the footage captured licensed trade traffic and that no unauthorized incursion had taken place.
The second clip was a deep‑faked video of Lt Gen Girish Kalia, the former GOC of the 28 Infantry Division. The Army explained that the original footage was from a 27 October 2023 briefing in Kupwara about infiltration attempts along the Line of Control, and that Kalia never mentioned Arunachal Pradesh or supply denial.
Rijiju called the Congress’s spread of the videos "treacherous" and demanded an apology, accusing the party of aiding the country's enemies. "The Congress Party is running a despicable campaign on behalf of India’s enemies," he declared.
The Army identified 12 social media handles that circulated the misleading content and has instructed the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to remove the posts. It will also monitor the accounts for future disinformation.
