The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has issued a stark ultimatum to the central government, insisting that Gyanesh Kumar resign and that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls be halted immediately. It also demands that the January 2025 voter list be restored and that a civilian‑run inquiry commission be set up to audit the SIR process. The party has called for the repeal of the 2023 Election Commissioners appointment law, arguing it erodes public trust.
The party will stage a 'Chappal protest' at Bengaluru’s Freedom Park on Thursday, following a People’s Tribunal on the SIR that opened at 10:30 a.m. Founders Abhijeet Dipke and YouTuber Dhruv Rathee, who posted on X confirming his presence, will speak alongside actor‑activist Prakash Raj. The tribunal will hear grievances from Kannadigas who claim they were wrongfully removed from the voter rolls.
CJP spokesperson Saurav Das told reporters that the group had formally notified Delhi Police of its planned demonstration at Jantar Mantar on October 10. He added that the police would be required to ensure law and order and arrange traffic for the expected crowd of thousands. The party’s message on X warns that it will not back down until all demands are met.
If the protest draws the promised mass turnout, it could pressure the Election Commission to reconsider the SIR and potentially force a review of the 2025 voter list. The central government is expected to respond in the coming days, while the Supreme Court may be called upon to adjudicate the legal challenges raised by the CJP.
