Police in Bengaluru confirmed that Yogesh, a first‑year B.Com student at a private college in Nagarabhavi, was fatally stabbed outside the campus on Wednesday night. The attack erupted after a quarrel between two student groups over an unspecified dispute.
Yogesh was attending a lecture when a friend called him to the quad. As he stepped outside, a melee broke out; a knife was brandished and thrust, striking him in the chest. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
Senior police officer Arjun Mehta said a total of four to five individuals are suspected of involvement, but only one has been named so far. The officer added that the motive will be clarified once all accused are apprehended.
The campus administration has halted classes for the remainder of the week, and a curfew has been imposed in the surrounding area. Students and staff have expressed shock, with one peer saying, "It was a nightmare; we never imagined something like this would happen here."
The Bengaluru Police Department has set up a dedicated task force to locate the remaining suspects. A press conference is scheduled for Friday to release further updates and outline the legal steps that will follow.
