At 6 am Monday, commuters in Delhi were met with a sudden quiet as entry and exit doors at six metro stations were locked. Patel Chowk, Janpath, Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, and Barakhamba Road were all affected, forcing riders to detour to neighboring stops.
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation posted the decision on X, stating the closures were in response to the opposition's planned Supreme Court march. Security agencies would review the situation, and the interchange facilities at the affected stations would remain operational.
Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge are set to march to the Supreme Court to demand a meeting with Chief Justice Surya Kant over alleged "vote chori". The Chief Justice declined the request, citing that the issue is sub judice, and has not agreed to meet Gandhi.
For commuters who rely on these hubs, the disruption translated into an extra 30 minutes of travel, with many taking buses and taxis to reach the Secretariat building.
DMRC will provide updates as security reviews progress, while the opposition march proceeds, and the Supreme Court has yet to schedule a hearing on the vote‑chori allegations.
