Tsuyo Manufacturing just landed a US$3.2 million yearly contract from a top Indian three‑wheeler OEM. The deal is for its next‑generation interior permanent magnet (IPM) motor, rated at a blistering 93% system efficiency and completely free of heavy rare earths.
For buyers looking at electric three‑wheelers, that efficiency means more range and fewer battery charges. And because the motor has an IP65 rating and uses air‑cooling, it can survive the dusty, humid conditions of the sub‑continent without a connector.
The motor sits squarely in the 0.5‑kW to 400‑kW bracket, so it can fit anything from a small delivery van to a lightweight cargo truck. That breadth puts it in direct line with competitors like Bosch and local players such as BEML.
The 10‑year programme also bundles technical support, on‑site service and after‑sales help – a package that fleet operators will appreciate when uptime is money.
With over 200,000 motors already sold and 50 OEM partners, Tsuyo has the production muscle to keep up. First deliveries are slated for Q3 2025, and the company says it can ramp up to 80,000 units a year.
What’s next? Watch how the HRE‑free IPM trickles into other commercial segments and whether policy shifts push more OEMs to adopt similar motors.
