Nalin Haley, son of former UN ambassador Nikki Haley, slammed Ohio gubernatorial hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy as a liar over his remarks on religion during a live interview in late April 2024. Ramaswamy had earlier clarified that he does not identify as Christian but grew up in a Catholic‑school setting and reads the Bible, claiming his faith aligns with Judeo‑Christian values.
The comments resurfaced when MAGA commentator Dinesh D'Souza shared an old clip of Ramaswamy explaining his religious stance, calling him a "MAGA" and adding, "Nothing you say is going to make you white."
Haley, who converted to Catholicism after marrying, said in a tweet that he does not want to be white and that his Hindu heritage is integral to his identity.
Ramaswamy’s campaign replied with a brief statement denying the allegation and reaffirming its commitment to religious freedom.
The controversy comes just weeks before the November 5, 2024 primary, when Ohio voters will decide the Republican nominee.
