Yogi Adityanath addressed the BJP state executive on Friday, warning that 1.27 crore Hindus are absent from Uttar Pradesh’s voter lists and could dilute the party’s hold in 28 urban local bodies.
The chief minister cited the latest Special Intensive Revision, which saw 2.04 crore names removed—largely from cities—yet only 84 lakh new voters added, leaving the electorate at 13.39 crore.
Adityanath added that 66 lakh Assembly-constituency voters, 55 lakh welfare beneficiaries, and 4.5 lakh 18‑to‑19‑year‑olds are missing, a shortfall that could swing votes toward opposition parties.
He ordered party cadres to coordinate with Booth Level Officers, conduct regular reviews, and tasked MPs, MLAs and office‑bearers with ensuring all Hindu names are added before the next general election.
A resident of Lucknow recounted how his name was struck from the rolls after the last update and fears losing his vote, illustrating the issue’s human impact.
The state will convene a follow‑up meeting next week to gauge progress, while the Election Commission plans to audit the rolls for accuracy.
