The Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer issued a blanket directive on Saturday. All district election officers must immediately deactivate the login credentials of 13,150 computer assistants across the state’s electoral registration offices. The order follows complaints from Pilibhit district about alleged misuse of ECINET portal login IDs.
The uproar began when the UP Congress highlighted that 13,150 voters had their names altered in the Pilibhit Sadar Assembly constituency while EPIC and serial numbers stayed intact. The claim points to a potential systematic manipulation of the electoral roll.
The CEO warned that election registration officers, assistant registration officers and the computer assistants will be held liable under Section 32 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950.
The outsourced firm handling the computer assistants has been instructed to terminate the services of the assistant involved in Assembly Constituency 127, Pilibhit.
District election officers must now verify that all login IDs are inactive, compile compliance reports, and submit them to the CEO office, ensuring that no further activity can occur on ECINET.
