For automakers hunting for premium sealing solutions, the launch of the new Chennai facility signals a pivot from traditional rubber to thermoplastics.
The 70,000‑sq‑ft plant, built with a ₹22 Cr investment, is equipped with TPV extrusion and moulding tech sourced from SaarGummi’s global network. It will produce glass run channels using four materials via four‑component extrusion, and sunroof seals with PE splicing—technology that only a handful of Indian suppliers currently offer.
SaarGummi tapped know‑how from its Spanish, German and Chinese plants to ensure the parts meet European standards. That’s why current customers like Skoda, Volkswagen and Hyundai are keen to source from the new unit.
The Chennai jump is part of a ₹54 Cr capex spread across three sites. The Daman plant, slated for completion by the end of 2027, will add hidden‑frame glass run channels for newer body styles, while Sanand will gain TPV moulding and finishing capabilities within six months.
For buyers, this translates to more locally sourced seals, which could lower costs and improve fitment. It also reduces dependence on overseas shipments, giving premium brands a safety net.
Chennai is already operational; Daman will roll out next year, and Sanand will finish by mid‑2024. Automakers can expect the upgraded parts in 2026‑27, delivering a smoother, cost‑effective driving experience.
