The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) released quick estimates on Monday, showing industrial production climbed 8% year‑on‑year in August 2026, up from 7.4% in July.
The IIP index rose to 123.3 from 114.2 a year earlier, while manufacturing surged 9% and electricity & gas supply jumped 12.3%.
Within manufacturing, 18 of 23 industry groups posted positive growth, with electrical equipment up 30.9%, transport equipment 25.3%, and motor vehicles 25.2%.
Cumulative production growth for the first half of the year stands at 6.7%, a sharp increase over the 4.2% recorded in the same period a year earlier.
The quick estimates, based on an 88% response rate, will be revised in the final August release; analysts expect the data to influence fiscal policy decisions slated for September.
