Amarinder Singh Warring posted a photo on social media that showed the iconic image of Bhagat Singh linked to serial number 422 in Part 38 of the Ludhiana East Assembly constituency roll, sparking immediate outrage among voters and political observers.
The district electoral officer quickly responded, stating that the photograph had appeared in an earlier version of the roll and was mistakenly carried forward into the draft roll released on August 13, 2026. He added that the discrepancy was flagged during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process and has since been updated.
The incident comes at a time when electoral rolls across Punjab and Haryana are under intense scrutiny. Rahul Gandhi has recently alleged irregularities in Haryana, while a separate controversy erupted over comments by a Punjab BJP leader regarding the deletion of thousands of votes.
The election office confirmed that the final voter roll, with the corrected photograph, is scheduled for publication on October 12. Officials assured that any further discrepancies would be addressed promptly to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.
