The deluge started in the Himalayan foothills near the Nepal‑Tibet border and has washed away homes, blocked roads, and swept away six houses along the Tinau River in Butwal’s Rupandehi district.
Police said about 200 houses along the riverbank are at risk; security forces evacuated roughly 1,000 people overnight, moving 500 residents from Majhuwa to the Durga Temple holding centre before shifting them to schools across Butwal.
In Chitwan, the Narayani River spiked to 9.23 m at Devghat at 5:15 am, well above its 7.3‑m warning and 9‑m danger level, while the Riu stream crossed the 3.8‑m danger level, prompting road closures and mudslides that blocked traffic in Dharapani and Simaldhara.
Karnali province saw rising water levels: the Thuli Bheri River in Dolpa hit 3.46 m, just shy of its 3.56‑m warning threshold, and a landslide blocked the Nagna‑Gamgadhi road in Mugu, while in Kalikot a mudslide closed the Karnali Highway.
Authorities urge residents in flood‑prone districts to stay alert and move to higher ground if water levels rise, as the government continues evacuation of hundreds more families and monitors river gauges across the country.
