Back to the roots. In 2018, NBA superstar Kevin Durant pledged $10 million to his hometown of Maryland through the Kevin Durant Charity Foundation, setting the stage for a community‑focused education initiative.
The Durant Center opened in January 2019 in Prince George’s County, now serving over 200 students yearly from schools like Suitland, Potomac and Charles Herbert Flowers.
College Track’s model follows students from ninth grade through college, addressing academic, financial and social‑emotional hurdles. Eighty‑nine percent of scholars are first‑generation college students, and eighty‑six percent come from under‑resourced backgrounds.
The center’s impact is clear: the four‑year college acceptance rate tops 96%, far eclipsing the 76% average for Prince George’s County.
Durant called the initiative a "realisation of a dream" to give back. He has directed earlier philanthropy toward youth athletics, court construction and homelessness programmes in the area.
The charity plans to sustain the program for the next decade, expanding its reach and maintaining the 96% acceptance rate.
