Kharageswar Rabha, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) attached to the Chief Minister's Vigilance Cell, was discovered dead inside a room at Hotel Jahnavi Regency in Bongaigaon district on Thursday. The officer had checked in on October 18, but staff only alerted authorities after noticing an unusual smell and a lack of movement from the room for an extended period. When senior police officials arrived, they found the body in a state of partial decomposition.
SSP Numal Mahato stated that preliminary observations suggest health-related complications could be the cause of death. However, he emphasized that the exact cause remains undetermined until the post-mortem report is finalized. "A full investigation is underway to rule out any foul play," Mahato told reporters, noting that the possibility of a medical emergency is being actively considered.
Investigators have launched a formal inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Rabha's stay. Teams are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the hotel, call detail records, and visitor logs to reconstruct the timeline of events leading up to the discovery. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and further official statements will follow once the medical findings are available.
