The $1.48 million gift will fund a mobile MRI that can travel around the island, allowing patients to get scans while Wilcox’s current MRI suite is being upgraded over the coming eight months.
A 3D mammography machine, another part of the donation, will replace the older 2D system. 3D imaging slices the breast into thin layers, giving radiologists a clearer picture of dense tissue and reducing the chance of missed cancers.
Wilcox Medical Center performs more than 4,000 MRI scans and 8,500 mammograms each year. Earlier in 2022, the couple donated $1.8 million for a new CT scanner, bringing the total support to over $4 million.
Because Kaua'i residents rarely have to travel to the mainland for complex imaging, the new equipment keeps high‑quality diagnostics close to home, shortening wait times and easing the burden on patients.
