At a rally in Nikaweratiya, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake declared that Sri Lanka would never allow its land or sea to be used for hostile acts against India.
Dissanayake cited Colombo's two‑year record of staying out of military conflicts, noting the country has denied requests from the United States and Iran to use its airspace or naval facilities.
The president added that while Sri Lanka would not participate in combat operations, it remained ready to provide humanitarian assistance, recalling March when Colombo treated sailors from an Iranian vessel struck by a U.S. submarine.
The remarks come after a meeting in Colombo last month where Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met Dissanayake and exchanged greetings on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reaffirming a partnership on regional security.
Both sides agreed to deepen maritime cooperation, with India planning joint surveillance exercises in the Indian Ocean in the coming weeks, while Sri Lanka signals it will continue to uphold its non‑aligned stance.
