Amit Shah told the BJP’s Uttar Pradesh state working committee that the party will roll out the Uniform Civil Code once it wins the 2026 assembly elections, saying the code has already been adopted in several states.
At the Dr Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University in Lucknow, Shah blasted the Samajwadi Party, accusing it of exploiting the Ram temple controversy and of vote‑tithe irregularities, warning that the SP would be shut out of power for the next three decades.
He also highlighted the Adityanath government’s record, citing a 70% drop in dacoity and a 35,000‑crore inflow into the defence corridor, arguing that stronger law‑and‑order has attracted investment.
With the next Uttar Pradesh assembly polls slated for February 2026, the BJP will seek to cement its third consecutive term, while opposition parties prepare to challenge the UCC plan in a possible parliamentary session.
