The Central Bureau of Investigation entered Rajbir Singh Ghuman’s residence in Gharachon village, Sangrur district, Thursday morning, following fresh allegations that he siphoned public funds.
The raid came after the CBI received a whistle‑blower complaint alleging misappropriation of state resources, prompting a formal probe into embezzlement.
Opposition parties seized the moment to denounce the administration. Waris Punjab De and Shiromani Akali Dal supporters drummed dhols, performed bhangra, and showered flower petals on the CBI convoy after the raid.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s camp condemned the protest, calling it a political stunt and insisting Ghuman is innocent.
The CBI said it would file a formal charge sheet once evidence is compiled, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for next month.
Local villagers expressed relief at the intervention, seeing it as a sign that corruption is finally being tackled.
