Kotda Gadhi, a remote hill village on the Gujarat‑Rajasthan frontier, is usually quiet, but that calm shattered when an LCB unit burst through a cotton‑stalked field on 28 March.
The raid came after officers at Kheroj police station received a tip that a massive cannabis plot was hidden beneath a standing cotton crop.
Police seized 967 illegal plants, weighing 345.600 kg and valued at ₹1,72,80,000, all buried in the uneven terrain.
At the scene, 25‑year‑old Raychandbhai Ramabhai Gamar was taken into custody; his brothers Jaga Ramabhai and Rva Punabhai Gamar are still at large.
The Kheroj station has registered a criminal case under sections 8(c), 20(a), 20(b)(ii‑C) and 29 of the NDPS Act, and police are continuing their sweep of the border area.
Local residents report that the cotton crop was the village’s main livelihood, and the sudden raid has left many farmers scrambling for alternative income.
