On Thursday, district leaders from Amritsar, Mohali and Rupnagar stood in front of party offices and shouted slogans in favour of Raja Warring, signalling that his influence still resonates across Punjab’s grassroots apparatus.
Mohali’s district chief Kamal Kishore Sharma said the unit was satisfied with Warring’s push to bring younger faces into the Congress, adding that the district would abide by any decision from the high command.
In Amritsar, Sourabh Madaan posted a video on the party’s social media praising Warring’s “hard work, dedication and struggle” and declaring he will always stand with him.
Ashwani Sharma of Rupnagar met Warring for almost two hours, a meeting that underscored the close ties between the former president and the district’s leadership, a relationship that may be tested should a new state chief be appointed.
Warring’s recent initiative of weekly dialogues on social media indicates his attempt to keep a direct line to workers as the state gears up for the February 2027 elections, making any leadership change a test of the network he built.
Party insiders say a decision on a new state president is expected by next week, after which all district units will align themselves with the chosen leader.
