A Swift sedan driven by Anas, heading from Hapur to Meerut, slammed into a concrete divider on the Hapur‑Bundalshahr highway near the Bijoli cut, then careened into a trailing Eeco.
The impact sent the Eeco toppling three times; the Swift suffered severe damage and its driver was trapped, rescued by locals.
Three passengers—Mobin (60), Mohammad Sahab (45), and Israf (35)—died in the hospital; two children and Anas sustained injuries.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Abhijit Kumar said the first responders reached the scene within minutes and transferred the injured to a nearby hospital.
Police have registered a case at Kharkhoda station and are probing whether the driver’s failure to maintain lane or brake contributed to the crash.
Authorities will conduct a post‑mortem on the victims and plan to keep the highway closed for several hours to clear wreckage and conduct a full investigation.
