On Saturday, Islamabad’s foreign office hauled the Indian Chargé d'Affaires into the diplomatic spotlight after the Border Security Force opened fire on two men near Tarn Taran, Punjab, killing them.
Deputy Superintendent Atul Soni reported that three men approached the border; one retreated back to Pakistan, while the other two ignored warnings and were shot by BSF.
Pakistan's foreign office insisted the men were civilians who had inadvertently crossed the border, calling the BSF's use of force 'grossly disproportionate' and demanding a transparent investigation.
New Delhi has promised to investigate the shooting and will brief Islamabad after completing its internal review.
